LEGALISATION

ITALIAN DOCUMENTS

For an Italian document to be correctly recognised by a foreign country that is not a party to the 1961 Hague Convention, it is good practice and sometimes mandatory to legalise the original Italian document/certificate at the relevant Prefecture or Public Prosecutor's Office, depending on the nature of the document, and then at the Consulate of the destination country.

The CAESAR translation agency in Rome, with three decades of experience, is at your disposal to assess free of charge and without obligation the correct procedure to follow, upon viewing your original documents.

    The agency will handle these legalisations throughout the national territory without any issues and with consistently fast processing times.

    Capable of managing the legalisation of invoices, certificates of origin, health certificates, and export documents, the Roman agency advises you to ensure that:

    • The documents are valid (expired documents cannot be legalised);
    • Notarial documents are always complete with inter-page stamps;
    • Certified copies always indicate the number of pages that make up the copy;
    • Chamber of Commerce certificates are always complete with inter-page stamps;
    • Documents to be legalised are always original and bear an authenticated signature (deposited with the Prefecture or Public Prosecutor's Office).
    • Some Prefectures do NOT legalise multilingual certificates (issued according to the Vienna Convention); we recommend using certificates issued exclusively in Italian;
    • Some Prefectures require the phrase "VALID FOR OVERSEAS" on the certificate; we suggest having it added.
