EXPERTS IN LEGAL TRANSLATIONS certified in Rome and in all of Italy

In addition to editorial and technical translations, the Rome-based CAESAR translation agency has been a leading provider of certified legal translations since 1986. Committed to ensuring legally certified translations and legal translations, the agency offers consistently accurate and highly professional service.

CAESAR reminds you that sworn translations are the only form of legally valid certification of a translation in Italy and abroad.

Any other form of attestation, declaration or "certification" has no legal value unless it bears a signature certification (called "asseveration") by a Court or a Notary.

Therefore, the Rome agency invites you to be wary of any other type of service offered and to request the necessary information from any Italian court in order to ascertain the above.

What are the differences between the types of translation available?

In Italy it is possible to proceed with 3 different types of translation

1

Free

A translated text is provided, in electronic or paper format. These are also called "SIMPLE TRANSLATIONS."

These are the most frequently requested translations, in the technical, advertising, editorial, or popular science fields.

2

Certified

A translated text is provided, in electronic or paper format, accompanied by acertificate of conformitydrawn up and signed by the translator; he certifies that the translated text conforms to the original and indicates his details.

This type of translation
IT HAS NO LEGAL VALUEand cannot be legalized or apostilled.
It is not accepted in Italyby any Public Body or Office (e.g. Citizenship or Municipality), while some institutions in the Anglo-Saxon world (USA, UK, Canada, New Zealand...) sometimes do so.

3

Sworn

A translated text is provided in paper format, where a public official (Chancellor ofCourtorNotary) authenticates the translator's signature - who assumes civil responsibility for the translated material - through a specificsworn statement.

Revenue stamps are affixed during the certification process.

This type of translation
IT HAS LEGAL VALUEand can be legalized or apostilled.
In Italy it is accepted as legally valid
; in the rest of the world it is similarly acquired, afterApostilleorlegalizationwhere applicable.

In some countries (e.g. Russia) a free translation of the oath memorandum is also required.
In Italy it is not permitted by law to proceed with
sworn translations between 2 foreign languagesIn such cases, it is also necessary to provide a certified translation into Italian, which must be inserted between the source and target languages.

This type of oath is commonly defined as "Interlingua” and provides for 2 sworn statements, with the affixing of revenue stamps on both sworn translations.

It is therefore very important to fully understand what is actually required and to turn to experienced professionals and agencies such as CAESAR in Rome, whose translators are registered with the Italian courts as CTU (Technical Consultants).

Very often, in fact, translation services are offered that are "certified" or stamped by "sworn translators" but are completely useless as they lack legal validity, or perhaps sworn translations for documents that are not properly legalized in the country of issue.

To avoid wasting time and money, we recommend contacting our agency, which has been professionally engaged in this work since 1986, for a free, immediate consultation regarding your specific needs.

To this end, the company executes and legalizes both original documents and certificates, as well as various sworn translations:

  • With Apostille at the Public Prosecutor's Office for countries adhering to the Hague Convention
  • At the Public Prosecutor's Office and then at any foreign consulate for countries not adhering to the Hague Convention

Certified translations

Translations sworn

Sworn legal translations (also called certified translations, or "sworn translations" in English) are required when a document needs to be translated and produced before a body, notary, or institution while maintaining its legal value, or when a legally certified translation of any text or document is required.

This applies to both:

  • documents fromfrom abroad(which will require a certified translation into Italian). This is required, for example, for filing documentation with the Chamber of Commerce, courts, the Department of Motor Vehicles, and the Revenue Agency.
  • Italian documentsheaded abroad(which will require a sworn translation into another language).

The Rome agency (operating nationwide) guarantees a competent and professional service in the field of sworn legal translations in the major world languages, ready for international use.

CAESAR specializes in legally binding translations of identity cards, passports, diplomas, certificates, official declarations, financial statements and corporate documents, criminal records, court appeals, notifications abroad, judgments, and medical certificates.

CAESAR, as a partner of NMC (Nursing & Midwifery Council) and Ryanair DAC, is also a point of reference for the management and duly certified translation of the necessary documentation.

Legal provisions

The Rome agency's sworn legal translations are produced and signed on the appropriate sworn/certified statement by native-speaking translators who are registered with the register of technical consultants of various courts in Rome and the Lazio region.

They have effective legal value, as they are sworn and signed by a translator recognized and accredited by the competent Court.

Translations, always complete and compliant in every part with the original document, are drafted taking into account the following current regulations.

  • The translation must be sworn by the translator and must be written on €16.00 stamped paper or on stamped paper, to which €16.00 stamps must be applied to each sheet. Alternatively, the translation can be written on A4 pages, 25 lines per page, in which case €16.00 stamps must be applied every four pages, or every 100 lines.
  • At the end of the translation (or if there is no space on the back of the translation), the translator must affix the stamp of the Sworn Statement, which the translator must fill out with his or her surname and name, as well as the data from the identity document;
  • The conjunction between the document to be translated and the translation must be done by the translator either with his signature or with his stamp or with the date stamp, before submitting it to the Office;
  • Each document must be translated individually, even if it refers to the same person or even if it is part of the same practice;
  • The document to be translated can be the original or a photocopy and must precede the translation to which it must be stapled so as to form a single document which will be followed by the Sworn Statement;
  • In the event that the translation is from Italian to Arabic, the Oath Statement must always be placed at the end of the document;
  • Under no circumstances is translation from one foreign language to another foreign language permitted; therefore, the translator must produce two distinct, separate, and consecutive translations: the first from the foreign language into Italian and the second from Italian into the foreign language (e.g., when translating from English into French, the translator must translate from English into Italian and from Italian into French, with two translations to be sworn in individually). Therefore, two sworn translations with the relevant revenue stamps will be required.
  • If the document to be translated contains parts in Italian, these must be transcribed in their entirety in the translation; the same applies when the translation is into a foreign language.
  • Stamps must be translated and signatures must be reported. If they are not clear or legible, it must be specified that the stamp is illegible and the signature illegible;
  • Photographs and various stamps placed on the document must be mentioned by the translator (for example, photo of the interested party, € stamp, etc.).

CAESAR also reminds you that all revenue stamps affixed by the translator to the translation before submission to the office are cancelled by the office itself when the translation is registered in the chronological register.

The CAESAR agency also boasts a leading role in the sworn translation of criminal records and pending charges.

Specifically, the company offers flat rates in case of a "null" result which amount to€80.00including stamp duty.

However, since some foreign countries only consider the validity period to be 3 months, the agency recommends using the certificates within 3 months, so as not to encounter problems when presented abroad.
